Annually on November 19 in Ukraine the professional holiday of workers of the glass industry - Day of the glassmaker is marked.
It is set by the Decree of the President of Ukraine of 09.12.2003 No. 1417/2003, considering a powerful contribution of the Ukrainian vendors of glass to development of economy of the state and revival of centuries-old traditions of branch.
This date is selected not accidental: 19 Nov the famous scientist Mikhail Lomonosov who was one of founders of chemical production of glass and porcelain was born. The history of origin of glass business on the Ukrainian lands reaches the beginning of the 17th century when on Chernihivshchyna there were the first steklovarenny which were called gutama, and workers, respectively - gutama.
Today the enterprises of the glass industry are provided in the majority of the areas of Ukraine. Especially high concentration of glass characterizes the Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk and Luhansk regions. In the glass industry of Ukraine more than 50 000 masters glassmakers work.
