In Ukraine as of January 1, 2016 there were 460 cities, 885 settlements of city type and 28 385 rural settlements

During the period from 2001 to 2012 the number of million-strong cities on the number of the cash population in the country was reduced from five (Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Odessa, Donetsk) to three (Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa), and on the number of resident population — to two (Kiev, Kharkiv).
Most of all cities are in Donetsk (52), Lviv (44) and the Luhansk (37) regions.
More than 69% of the population (2015) [3][4] live in city settlements (the cities and пгт).
About 17 million people (37% of residents of the country) live in 16 largest city agglomerations of Ukraine.
